Want to see your baby's face in stunning 3D or 4D? Timing is everything for the best images.
The Ideal Window
The optimal time for a 3D/4D baby scan is typically between 26-32 weeks of pregnancy. This timeframe offers the best balance of:
- Developed features - baby's face is fully formed
- Adequate space - still room for baby to move and position well
- Good fluid levels - amniotic fluid helps create clearer images
- Baby fat - gives that adorable chubby look
Why This Timing Works Best
Before 26 Weeks
Earlier scans can capture 3D images, but:
- Baby may look too skinny
- Features aren't as rounded and filled out
- Less baby fat for that soft, cuddly appearance
After 32 Weeks
Later scans can still capture beautiful images, however:
- Less room for baby to move into optimal positions
- Face may be pressed against the uterine wall
- Reduced amniotic fluid around the face
What Makes a Great 3D/4D Scan?
Several factors contribute to image quality:
- Baby's position - face ideally not pressed against placenta or uterine wall
- Amniotic fluid - fluid in front of baby's face helps image clarity
- Baby's activity - movement can help capture different expressions
- Patience - sometimes baby needs time to move into position
What You'll See
During a 3D/4D scan, you can see:
- Your baby's facial features
- Expressions like yawning or sucking thumb
- Hand and foot details
- Real-time movement (4D)
