Watch our video guide to Week 40 of your pregnancy journey:

What's Happening in Week 40?

This is your due date week! Your baby is the size of a small pumpkin, weighing around 3.4kg and measuring about 51cm from head to toe. Only about 5% of babies arrive on their exact due date - it's perfectly normal to go a bit earlier or later.

Your baby's skull bones are not yet fused, allowing them to overlap slightly during birth. This is why some babies have a slightly cone-shaped head after vaginal delivery - it's temporary!

Tips for Week 40

  • Try not to be too anxious if you go past your due date
  • Stay in touch with your healthcare provider
  • Keep monitoring baby's movements
  • Rest and try to enjoy these final moments of pregnancy

Congratulations!

Whether your baby arrives this week or decides to wait a little longer, you've made it through 40 incredible weeks of pregnancy. The team at Ultrasound Ireland wishes you a safe delivery and a healthy, happy baby.

Thank you for choosing Ultrasound Ireland for your pregnancy journey.
